Explanation of the Text: 1 Thess 2 :14-15
1Th 2:14 For you, brethren, followed the example of the Churches of God in Christ Jesus which are in Judaea; seeing that you endured the same ill-treatment at the hands of your countrymen, as they did at the hands of the Jews.
1Th 2:15 Those Jewish persecutors killed both the Lord Jesus and the Prophets, and drove us out of their midst. They are displeasing to God, and are the enemies of all mankind;
It is amazing that the Jews are still very hostile to the Message of the Good News of Jesus Christ. They have been set aside by God so that the Gentiles [Non-Jews] may enter the Kingdom of God. The Gospel is still to be preached to the Jew First even though they have hard hearts and refuse to recognize Jesus as the Messiah (or Christos).
1Th 2:15 Those Jewish persecutors killed both the Lord Jesus and the Prophets, and drove us out of their midst. They are displeasing to God, and are the enemies of all mankind;
- Notes: followed the example of the Churches of God in Christ Jesus which are in Judaea; This Assembly had been founded on Our Lord Jesus Christ and were united with Him. They were suffering at the hands of the Thessalonian Jews as those in Judea had. Others had suffered and now here were these new believers suffering in the same way. See Acts 17
- Those Jewish persecutors killed both the Lord Jesus and the Prophets, and drove us out of their midst. They are displeasing to God, and are the enemies of all mankind; v. 15 According to Acts 2 :23 The Great Characteristic of the Jews was to be engaged in Persecution of the Believers in Jesus Christ According to Matthew 21 33-40 The Parable of the Vineyard shows that they killed the prophets God sent to them. see Acts 7:52 Stephen announced to the Sanhedrin and said, " And which of the Prophets did not your fore-fathers persecute? Yes they killed those who announced the Coming of the Righteous One (Jesus), whose betrayers and murderers you have become."
- and drove us out of their midst. As they had done in Thessaloniki and also in Iconium Acts 14:1; Derbe and Lystra Acts 14:6 and at Philippi, Thessaloniki and Berea. They chased all who did not follow their way.
