Explanation of the Text 1 Thess 2:11-12 Spiritual Fathers of the faith

1Th 2:11  For you know that we acted towards every one of you as a father does towards his own children, encouraging and cheering you
1Th 2:12  and imploring you to live lives worthy of fellowship with God who is inviting you to share His own Kingship and glory.
Notes:
He says that they witnessed His manner of life and character while he was with them for three weeks.
v.10. 'how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed.
holy= separated from sin unto God.' piously;
righteous = full of what was right , straight and just. They showed moral rectitude, and they lived uprightly.
 and finally blameless ='above reproach'  Thayer says, "The conviction and trust which a man is impelled by; a certain inn higher prerogative  and law of the soul.
Thus they showed to the Thessalonians that Christian Character and conduct were to be exemplory.
Couldn't we wish that all of us Ministers of the Good News were such examples to the new Christians from our ministry.  Exemplory Character and Conduct.

Notes on v.11. Paul dealt with His children in the faith as a Father.

There are many instructors in Christ but not many fathers. " A real father loves, instructs, trains and disciplines his children."  There are so many absentee fathers today that people are not trained , loved nor disciplined.

v.12  and imploring you to live lives worthy of fellowship with God who is inviting you to share His own Kingship and glory.
encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God......
encouraging   Greek (parcleo) to call near, to implore or to address. (Shogren ) to entreat you.
Paul was a real father to the new Thessalonian Assembly
He encouraged, comforted and consoled them in their new walk of faith in God.

As a new Missionary I was blessed with older experienced missionaries who mentored me at Kispushya Mission in the Congo.

Joan Rhodes, Missionary Nurse extraordinaire was a mother to us all.

Eddie and HeatherRowlands  who instructed and encouraged me as a new young missionary. Here they are with my son and family at Margate in the UK.

to live lives worthy of God (v. 12b)

RV.  - to the end that ye should walk worthily of God.
WNT.  - to live lives worthy of fellowship with God.
CEV .  - to live in a way that is honouring to God
G.W.   - to live in a way that proves you belong to God
I.S.V.  - to live in a manner worthy of God.
v.10c. Notes : v.12c.  who calls you into His Kingdom and Glory. (or who called you into His own Glorious Kingdom. Shogren )
Compare 2 Thess 2:14 (God called you through the Gospel we preached.

Paul here defines the goal of all Gospel Preaching and discipleship : not just to rescue from the coming wrath upon the earth;  but very positively to deliver them in His Kingdom.
2 Thess 1 :5  All this is evidence that God's Judgment is right, and as a result  you will be counted worthy of His kingdom, for which you are suffering.

Here Paul is referring to the great Eschatological Age into which the Church will enter having escaped the Judgment of God on unbelievers.

 See those who will not enter the Kingdom of God

1 Cor. 6 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God, Do not be deceived. Neither shall the sensually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders....etc
Gal 5:19  Now you know full well the doings of our lower natures. Fornication, impurity, indecency, idol-worship, sorcery;
Gal 5:20  enmity, strife, jealousy, outbursts of passion, intrigues, dissensions, factions, envyings;

Gal 5:21  hard drinking, riotous feasting, and the like. And as to these I forewarn you, as I have already forewarned you, that those who are guilty of such things will have no share in the Kingdom of God.

So we see that "not inheriting the Kingdom of God"  is paramount to facing "God's Judgment"

The Gospel or Good News proclaimed in the Four Gospels was always a message using KINGDOM language. It was the Gospel of the Kingdom  and the Christian Gospel of Grace Mat 4:17  From that time Jesus began to preach. "Repent," He said, "for the Kingdom of the Heavens is now close at hand." Mat 4:23  Then Jesus traveled through all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom, and curing every kind of disease and infirmity among the people.

In the Acts of the Apostles we see the same Kingdom language. Acts 8:12; 14:22;19:8
Act 20:25  "And now, I know that none of you among whom I have gone in and out proclaiming the coming of the Kingdom will any longer see my face.
Act 28:23  So they arranged a day with him and came to him in considerable numbers at the house of the friends who were entertaining him. And then, with solemn earnestness, he explained to them the subject of the Kingdom of God, endeavouring from morning till evening to convince them about Jesus, both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets.
Act 28:24  Some were convinced; others refused to believe.

compare Mat 24:14  And this Good News of the Kingdom shall be proclaimed throughout the whole world to set the evidence before all the Gentiles; and then the End will come.

Do you know that you have been transferred out of the Kingdom of Darkness into the Kingdom of His dear SON. WE are now no-longer controlled by the Prince of Darkness but the glorified Risen Son of God, King of kings and Lord of lords.
