Explanation of the Text 1 Thess. 4:6 PURITY OF LIFE . (cont.)

Purity of Life. Cont.)

1Th 4:6  and that in this matter there be no encroaching on the rights of a brother Christian and no overreaching him. For the Lord is an avenger in all such cases, as we have already taught you and solemnly warned you.
1Th 4:7  God has not called us to an unclean life, but to one of purity
1Th 4:8  Therefore a defiant spirit in such a case provokes not man but God, who puts His Holy Spirit into your hearts. WNT
Notes :
in this matter there be no encroaching on the rights of a brother Christian and no overreaching him.
You must not cheat any of the Lord's Followers in the matter of sex.
no encroaching on the rights, this means transgress the bounds of rectitude in respect to your brother.
defraud - overreach - take advantage of ....
In this matter of conjugal rights and to honour his brother as a husband 4:4-7. The word, 'brother', enhamces the enormity of the crime. Fancy wronging your very brother in the faith. Compare Proverbs 6 :27-34
Pro 6:27  If you carry burning coals, you burn your clothes;
Pro 6:28  if you step on hot coals, you burn your feet.
Pro 6:29  And if you go to bed with another man's wife, you pay the price.
Pro 6:30  We don't put up with thieves, not even with one who steals for something to eat.
Pro 6:31  And thieves who get caught must pay back seven times what was stolen and lose everything.
Pro 6:32  But if you go to bed with another man's wife, you will destroy yourself by your own stupidity.
Pro 6:33  You will be beaten and forever disgraced,
Pro 6:34  because a jealous husband can be furious and merciless when he takes revenge.

For the Lord is an avenger in all such cases, as we have already taught you and solemnly warned you.
Avenger: the One who 2) exacting penalty from one
2a) an avenger, punisher

The Lord is the 'Righter' in all such cases especially concerning wrongs done to another brother in Christ.
-1Th 4:7  God has not called us to an unclean life, but to one of purity.  [ God has not called us to be sexually immoral but to be holy.]
An unclean life of impurity (physically or morally)  [all' en  hagiasmoi]; but to one of Purity and sanctification.

God has called us all for a decent sex life in keeping with His aims and purposes. It was necessary for Paul to place this lofty ideal before the Thessalonian Christians who were living in a very pagan world. So now, When He calls us to be His followers , it is not that we should live lives of impurity but of holiness.
Compare: Romans 6:19; 2 Cor 12:21; Gal 5 19; Ephesians 4 :19; 5:3 Col 3:5
