Explanation of the Text 1 Thess 5:7-8 Don't Sleep or be Drunk but sober protected by FAITH, LOVE and Salvation

1Th 5:7  For those sleeping sleep in the night, and those being drunken are drunken in the night. 
and those being drunken are drunken in the night.

1Th 5:8  But let us, who are of the day, be calm, having put on the breastplate of faith and love and the hope of salvation for a helmet.

The previous verse said Watch = Keep awake and Vigilant; and be Sober = Refrain from all indulgence of the Flesh both mental and sensual. cp. 1Pe 5:8  Be sensible and vigilant, because your adversary the Devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour; 
1Pe 5:9  whom firmly resist in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions in the world are being completed in your brotherhood.

v.7. For those sleeping,  sleep in the night, Night is the time for sleeping. Daytime is the time for action. Christians don't be sleeping in the Daytime, we must be active now. There is so much negligence in doing what is right.

v.7.b. and those being drunken are drunken in the night. The wicked and the Drunken do their revelling in the night. They are given over to riotous living in the night.

 BibleIllustrator  For us we need an attitude of Militant Courage.
The Christian has an Enemy of their souls to fight, as well as to watch out for him. The Christian Soldier is on sentry duty. We are in war zone and not living a life of luxurious ease.

 The Graces of FAITH. LOVE AND HOPE  are the complete equipment for the soul.
The breast plate and the helmet are two vital pieces of equipment to protect the two most vital parts - the heart and the head. Let us keep the head from error and the heart from Sin - then we will be safe.

Faith and the Love of Christ will protect our heart and the Hope of Salvation will protect our head. This is the sure Expectation and certainty that God will save us by Faith in Jesus Christ. God will keep us sain and on our wits in the midst of the battle.

We will be inspired to enterprising Bravery in the middle of the fiercest fight.

1 Thess 2:7 On the contrary, in our relations to you we showed ourselves as gentle as a mother is when she tenderly nurses her own children W.N.T. 1Th 2:7  even though as apostles of Christ we could have made demands on you. But we were gentle when we were with you, like a mother taking care of her children.
