Explanation of the text 1Thess 5:19 Don't put out the Spirit's fire

Image
1Th 5:19  Do not quench the Spirit. My daughter tells the story of the Parable of Mum's Old Wood Combustion Stove,   which we had at our old Toowoomba home in Warwick Street. Esther and I were going away for the weekend and because she was going to have a sleep over with some of her friends, I said to her before leaving, You'll have to keep the fire burning. That is, "you'll have to stack it up before bed otherwise you will not have a hot shower in the morning",which in Winter can be very cold in Toowoomba. Old Slow Combustion stove This Scripture is a command not to extinguish or let the fire of the Holy Spirit go out in your life or you will become cold in heart and life.  The Holy Spirit brings the fire on the altar of your heart. He enlightens, He quickens, He anoints, He convicts and convinces and He directs. He is the Spirit of Christ who forms Christ- likeness in our personalities. He is the Spirit of Truth showing us what is real, right and holy. D

Explanation of the Text 1 Thess 5:15-18 Practical Christianity in Action

1Th 5:15  See to it that no one ever repays another with evil for evil; but always seek opportunities of doing good both to one another and to all the world.  1Th 5:16  Be always joyful.  1Th 5:17  Be unceasing in prayer.  1Th 5:18  In every circumstance of life be thankful; for this is God's will in Christ Jesus respecting you.   WNT Notes : V.15  See to it that no one ever repays another with evil for evil; Make sure no one pays back wrong for wrong. D. Barnes Notes :  The meaning here is, that we are not to take vengeance ; compare notes on Rom_12:17, Rom_12:19. This law is positive, and is universally binding. The moment we feel ourselves acting from a desire to “return evil for evil,” that moment we are acting wrong. It may be right to defend our lives and the lives of our friends; to seek the protection of the law for our persons, reputation, or property, against those who would wrong us; to repel the assaults of calumniators and slanderers, but in no case should

Explanation of the Text 1 Thess. 5:14 Responsibilities of Leaders

1Th 5:14  And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the unruly, comfort the timid, sustain the weak, and be patient towards all.  Notes : And we exhort you, Brothers and Sisters ( or we entreat you Brothers) Shogren. Now Paul addresses those who are responsible to ' admonish' other believers. Vvs 12 -22 could be addressed to all believers because all are expected to help their fellow Christians and companions in the faith. (4:18; and 5;11). There was no disorder in our lives among you,  2Th 3:8  nor did we eat any one&

Explanation of the Text: 1Thess. 5:9-10 Not Chosen for Punishment but LIFE.

1Th 5:9  For God has not pre-destined us to meet His anger, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ;  1Th 5:10  who died on our behalf, so that whether we are awake or are sleeping we may share His Life. ................................................................................................................................................................ 1Th 5:5  You are all the sons of light and the sons of the day. We are not of the night, or of darkness.  Th 5:6  Therefore let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be calm.  ____________________________________________________________________________ Notes  You are all the sons of light and the sons of the day .  This is definitely connected to the previous verse 4. But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the Day should overtake you like a thief.  You have no reason to fear the Coming Day of the Lord, for you are all Sons of the Light and Sons of the Day. You have been 'Born Again'. There has been a spiritual transformation in your life whereby the Spirit of God has transformed your life, and therefore now you resemble your Father in character (intellectually, morally, and spiritually illuminated.
